{"id":1674,"date":"2007-10-02T15:38:22","date_gmt":"2007-10-02T15:38:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/10\/02\/emergency-text-messaging-notification-system-for-students-faculty-and-staff-implemented\/"},"modified":"2013-02-01T19:48:13","modified_gmt":"2013-02-01T19:48:13","slug":"emergency-text-messaging-notification-system-for-students-faculty-and-staff-implemented","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/10\/02\/emergency-text-messaging-notification-system-for-students-faculty-and-staff-implemented\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Text Messaging Notification System for Students, Faculty, and Staff Implemented"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Jersey City<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"> &#8211;<span style=\"color: red\"> <\/span>Saint Peter&rsquo;s College has implemented SPC Security Alerts, an emergency notification system intended to inform the College Community of imminent threats to security.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>In the event of an emergency an<span style=\"color: red\"> <\/span>SPC Security Alert will be sent to all registered cell phones via a text message.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The message will state the type of threat and indicate suggested action. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Although participation is optional <strong>the College strongly urges ALL students, faculty and staff to enroll their text message capable cell phones<\/strong> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spc.edu\/Alerts\">www.spc.edu\/Alerts<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>According to Saint Peter&rsquo;s Director of Security, Arthur J. Youmans, &ldquo;Providing a secure learning, living and working environment for students and employees often requires sharing information quickly and broadly. Given the prevalence of cell phones on campus and the speed at which an urgent message can be received text messaging is a valuable tool.&rdquo;<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">While SPC Security Alerts is only one of the communication vehicles employed by Campus Safety it undoubtedly will contribute to better emergency preparedness and response to crisis situations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0.25in 0pt 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Saint Peter&rsquo;s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter&rsquo;s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Jersey City<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">.
